Privacy Policy
Our privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use Plausible Analytics, and your rights under UK GDPR. No calculator data is ever stored.
Teacher Pay Calculator UK (the "Website") provides free teacher pay calculators and salary tools for teachers in the United Kingdom. Our website address is teacherpaycalculator.uk.
We are a data controller under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 — we decide how and why your personal data is processed.
Our core commitment: no calculator data is stored
A salary calculator collects some of the most sensitive financial information a person can enter online: salary figures, pension status, student loan details, and personal data. We made a deliberate decision at the design stage to ensure none of this data ever leaves your device.
All of our teacher pay calculators run entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit any information you enter into any calculator — including salary figures, spine points, TLR amounts, student loan plans, pension status, dates of birth, employment start dates, or due dates. The calculations happen on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.
For how we limit liability and clarify that results are estimates, not financial advice, read our Disclaimer.
What personal data we collect, and why
Analytics — anonymous usage data (Plausible Analytics)
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless analytics service designed to be compliant with UK GDPR, PECR and ePrivacy regulations by default.
Plausible collects: pages you visit, time spent per page, limited key clicks, device and browser type, your approximate region (country/city level, not precise location), and how you found our site.
Plausible does not collect: no cookies set in your browser, no personal identifiers (name, email, IP address), no cross-site tracking, no persistent identifiers across visits.
Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — understanding usage to improve functionality and ensure our calculators meet user needs. Because the data is fully anonymous and cannot identify you, your interests and rights do not override this. You cannot be identified from this data, and no consent is required for cookieless analytics under PECR.
Contact form
If you contact us via our contact page, we collect your name, email address, and message content — used only to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to any marketing list.
Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — responding to enquiries is a necessary function of operating the Website.
Email communications
If you email us directly, we retain your email and our response for as long as reasonably necessary to address your enquiry.
Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — maintaining communication with users who have chosen to contact us.
Cookies
We do not set any cookies for analytics or advertising. Our website may set a strictly necessary session cookie to maintain your session while using calculators — it contains no personal data, is deleted when you close your browser, does not track you across visits or sites, and does not require consent under PECR's strictly-necessary exemption. We use no marketing, advertising or third-party tracking cookies. See our full Cookies Policy for details.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share anonymous analytics data with Plausible Analytics only. We do not share contact form submissions or email enquiries with any third party except as required by law.
How long we retain your data
- Analytics data: retained by Plausible for 30 days (industry-standard for anonymous analytics)
- Contact form submissions: retained for 6 months from the date of submission
- Email enquiries: retained for 6 months from the date of the final response
We retain the minimum data necessary for the shortest period consistent with its purpose.
Where your data is sent
Plausible Analytics is a European company (Estonia/EU); all analytics data is processed on servers within the EU — no data is transferred outside the EU/EEA. Contact form submissions and email enquiries are stored within the United Kingdom.
Your legal rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access a copy of the personal data we hold; rectification of inaccurate data; erasure ("right to be forgotten"); restriction of how we use your data; portability in a structured, machine-readable format; objection to our processing; and to withdraw consent where we rely on it.
Because we collect almost no personal data, many of these requests will simply confirm we hold no data about you. To exercise any right, contact us — we respond within 30 days.
Children's privacy
Our website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — the "last updated" date above reflects any changes. Material changes will be flagged with a prominent notice on our website. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
